Shelter donation displays generosity

The help provided to the homeless through the Community Family Shelter since opening its doors in March of 2002 has been dramatic.  Services include temporary housing, meals, and transportation assistance and job skill training.  In the past 7 years and 8 months, the shelter accomplished the following:

  •  Provided on-site shelter for 499 families, including 715 adults and 856 children

  • Housed 315 single women

  • Provided a total of 116,674 nights of lodging

  • Transitioned 191 families to permanent housing

  • Through the day program, provided 265,952 meals, 5,393 showers and 5,237 loads of laundry

  • Extended motel vouchers to families, accommodating 1,345 nights of lodging to 593 families of which 851 were adults and 489 were children.

The impact upon the community is three fold: assisting parents in providing the basic needs of their children and increasing access to medical care and nutrition, thus lessening inappropriate use of our hospitals’emergency rooms, and increasing attendance of homeless children at school.  Thus, the Community Family Shelter creates a brighter future for those homeless individuals whose circumstances require temporary help.
